What is the SAT test?
The SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) is a standard test for high school students that measures how academically prepared a candidate is for university. In other words, the SAT is an entrance exam for American universities and other universities. It is considered a very important test and by many university admission officials it is considered a key test for winning scholarships in American universities, but not only. It is a test that opens the door to financial support from the university and many high school students from all over the world take the SAT so that they can then continue their studies with scholarships.
Some features of the exam
It consists of questions which require sufficient knowledge, practice and insight.
It analyzes how prepared you are for this test, not how smart you are.
There are 1600 marks, 800 of them belong to the English language section and 800 to mathematics.
SAT testing
The test takes 3 hours, or 3 hours and 50 minutes if you choose to also write the optional 50-minute essay. Be sure to research whether the school you are interested in requires the essay or not. The SAT consists of:
English language which includes - reading, language and writing as well as essay. Mathematics which consists of the test where the calculator is not used (20 questions, 25 minutes) and the rest where the calculator is allowed (38 questions, 55 minutes)
Reading Section
The main purpose of the reading test is to measure your ability to understand words in context, as well as to find and analyze given facts. It lasts 65 minutes and consists of 52 questions, which are based on these reading passages and can be combined with informative graphics, such as tables or diagrams.
Writing and Language Section
This section lasts 35 minutes and consists of 44 questions, which are also based on academic texts and the questions are related to:
- correcting or editing a text
- changes in the organization of paragraphs and the content of the entire text.
You can enter multiple times and most universities take the highest score or the average score.
In relation to winning scholarships, it is a criterion that determines the university where you will study. In addition to the fact that in America this test is dominant in dozens and hundreds of English-speaking universities in Europe and other countries such as Turkey, Canada, etc., they also have it as a criterion for admission to the University and winning scholarships.
